Thoughts on Mother’s Day

It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn’t.
~Barbara Kingsolver

I laughed when I read this quote. Just when you think you can’t possibly take any more sleepless nights or the terrible two’s or the tweenie attitude, they’re on to the next phase. You breathe a sigh of relief and whisper a “Thank you God”, and one breath later you’re near tears and mourning the loss of that moment in childhood. Because really, that’s all it is. Motherhood is simply moment upon brief moment of heart wrenching, character building, soul fulfilling joy. And if the terrible two’s or potty training had lasted much longer, I fear it may have killed me.

Happy Mother’s Day!
